ITINERARY

1. Hotel Pickup (Cusco)

We start early with pickup from your hotel in the historic center of Cusco by private tour bus. The journey will take us through spectacular Andean landscapes to the starting point of the hike.

2. Breakfast in Cusipata

We stop at a local restaurant in Cusipata to enjoy a traditional Andean breakfast, with hot options, fruits, herbal teas, and more, ideal for recharging your batteries before the hike.

3. Arrival at Llaqto and hike to Rainbow Mountain

From the starting point in Llaqto (4,630 m above sea level), we begin a hike of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to the famous Rainbow Mountain, also known as Vinicunca. Along the way, you’ll enjoy views of glaciers, herds of alpacas, and unique high Andean landscapes.

4. Arrival at Rainbow Mountain (5,036 m above sea level)

You’ll have time to rest, take photographs, and enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the natural colors generated by minerals in the earth. Your guide will explain the geological origin and cultural significance of this sacred site to local communities.

5. Hike to the Red Valley

For those seeking an even more comprehensive experience, the tour continues to the Red Valley. This additional section (optional, at no extra cost) reveals a surreal landscape of mountains tinged with intense red, rarely visited and perfect for those looking to avoid the crowds.

6. Return to Llaqto and transfer to Cusipata

We begin the return hike to the point where our private transportation is waiting for us.

7. Buffet lunch in Cusipata

We will enjoy a buffet lunch with a variety of Andean dishes prepared with local ingredients: soups, stews, meats, vegetables, and traditional desserts, with vegetarian options available.

8. Return to Cusco

After lunch, we begin the return trip by private transportation. We arrive in Cusco at approximately 5:00 p.m., leaving unforgettable memories of this magical experience.

The Salkantay Trek with Marvelous couldn't have been better thanks to our incredible guide, Daniel. Honestly, I've never had such a great guide. Daniel is so warm, cheerful, and energetic. He wasn't just a guide, but part of our trekking family—many guides could learn something from him! Aside from that, our group was very personable, young, and motivated. The private cooks traveling with us prepared amazing food, and there was always enough of it. I've never eaten so well on a trek. Only in the last few days, when the cooks left and provided us with food at the restaurant, did the quality of the food really suffer compared to before. The accommodations were good, the sleeping bags provided were sufficient, and Daniel, our guide, tailored the route to our group's needs so everyone was satisfied.
