ITINERARY

📅 Detailed Itinerary

Cusco – Cloud Forest – Lodge in Manu / DAY 1

  • Pickup at your hotel and departure by private transportation.
  • Stop in Ninamarca, a pre-Inca archaeological site with chullpas.
  • Short visit to Paucartambo, a picturesque colonial town.
  • Ascent to Abra Acjanaco (3,560 m above sea level), the gateway to Manu National Park.
  • Descent into the cloud forest, habitat of the cock-of-the-rock and multiple species of orchids, bromeliads, and ferns.
  • Bird and wildlife observation walk.
  • Overnight in a rustic lodge within the cloud forest.

Cloud Forest – Puerto Atalaya – Alto Madre de Dios River – Amazon Lodge / DAY 2

  • Early breakfast and departure to Pilcopata and then to Puerto Atalaya.
  • Motorized boat trip along the Alto Madre de Dios River.
  • Observe riverine birds, turtles, monkeys, and caimans during the trip.
  • Introductory hike in the lowland rainforest.
  • Overnight in an Amazon lodge with solar power and mosquito nets.
  • Optional night walk to observe wildlife active at night.

Parrot Clay Lick – Deep Forest – Jungle Exploration / DAY 3

Before dawn: Sail to observe the parrot clay lick, where macaws and parakeets feed on clay.

Walk along primary forest trails, searching for mammals, reptiles, and insects.

Visit hidden lagoons and palm groves inhabited by squirrel monkeys and aquatic birds.

Free afternoon or optional hike to observe medicinal flora.

Overnight in a lodge with a typical Amazonian dinner.

Biosphere Reserve – Wildlife Observation Zone / DAY 4

  • Deep exploration within Manu National Park (cultural zone permitted).
  • Walk along interpretive trails with a biodiversity expert guide.

  • Relaxing afternoon or boat trip on the river.

Return by River – Pilcopata Village – Intermediate Lodging / DAY 5

  • Farewell to the lowland jungle.
  • Return by boat to Puerto Atalaya, with last opportunities for wildlife viewing.
  • Transfer by road to Pilcopata or San Pedro.
  • Overnight at intermediate lodging at the edge of the jungle.
  • Farewell group dinner.

San Pedro – Cusco / DAY 6

  • Breakfast and optional farewell hike through the cloud forest.
  • Return trip to Cusco, with photo stops and lunch en route.
  • Approximate arrival in Cusco: 6:00 – 7:00 PM.
  • End of the Amazon expedition.
