ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival in Tambopata – Welcome Night Walk
1. Reception at the airport or bus terminal in Puerto Maldonado. Brief transfer to the port and cruise along the Madre de Dios River to our eco-lodge, located in the heart of the jungle. During the journey, you may spot alligators, turtles, and riverside birds.
2. Arrival at the lodge. Welcome drink and assignment of rustic rooms with jungle views. Time to rest or enjoy the natural surroundings.
3. Typical Amazonian lunch. Then, a brief introductory talk on Tambopata’s biodiversity.
4. Interpretive walk along trails in the primary forest. A specialized guide will explain medicinal plants, giant trees, and the sounds of the forest.
5. Dinner at the lodge.
6. Night walk to observe insects, amphibians, and tarantulas, and listen to the sounds of the jungle at dusk.
Day 2: Sunrise at Lake Sandoval – Wildlife and Observation Tower
1. We wake up early to experience one of the most unforgettable moments: sunrise at Lake Sandoval, within the Tambopata National Reserve. We will transfer by boat and hike 3 km along a trail surrounded by palm trees and lush vegetation.
2. We will canoe on the lake. We will spot exotic birds such as hoatzins, macaws, kingfishers, as well as giant otters and black caimans. Enjoy the reflection of the sunrise on the calm waters of the lake.
3. We will return to the lodge for breakfast and rest.
4. We will visit a 30-meter-high observation tower. From the top, you can observe colorful birds, monkeys in the treetops, and a stunning panoramic view of the jungle.
5. We will have lunch at the lodge.
6. Free time to relax in hammocks, watch hummingbirds, or kayak on the river.
7. Dinner. Optional activity: talk on Amazon conservation and nocturnal wildlife.
Day 3: Sunrise Birdwatching – Return to Puerto Maldonado
1. Early departure by boat to watch the sunrise from the Madre de Dios River. During the tour, you can see flocks of parrots and macaws moving through the trees.
2. Return to the lodge for breakfast.
3. Packing and departure from the lodge. Transfer by boat back to Puerto Maldonado.
4. Arrival at the airport or bus terminal to board your return flight or bus.
