DAY 1 | CUSCO – PAUCARTAMBO – CLOUD FOREST – PILCOPATA (600 m a.s.l.)

  • Early morning pick-up in Cusco. We begin the journey towards the southeastern Andes.
  • Stop at the Chullpas de Ninamarca, pre-Incan funerary towers with panoramic views of the valley.
  • Visit the colonial town of Paucartambo, famous for its traditional festivals, stone bridge, and cultural museum.
  • We continue the ascent to Abra Acjanaco (3,560 m above sea level), the official entry point to Manu National Park.
  • We begin the descent into the lush cloud forest, home to the iconic Cock-of-the-Rock, hummingbirds, orchids, giant ferns, and, if we’re lucky, the Spectacled Bear.

DAY 2 | PILCOPATA – PUERTO ATALAYA – AMAZON MANU LODGE (450 m a.s.l.)

4-Day Manu Park Tour

  • Early breakfast. Departure for Puerto Atalaya, passing through coca, banana, cassava, and other tropical plantations.
  • Board a motorboat to descend the Alto Madre de Dios River, beginning our immersion in the jungle.
  • Along the way, we observe aquatic birds, turtles, butterflies, and, with luck, monkeys or capybaras on the shore.
  • Arrival at the Amazon Manu Lodge, surrounded by dense vegetation and the sounds of the jungle.
  • Typical Amazonian lunch and short rest.
  • In the afternoon, we will take an interpretive walk around the lodge to identify giant trees, medicinal plants, and tropical birds.
  • After dinner, we will take an optional night out in search of frogs, insects, tarantulas, and other nocturnal animals.

DAY 3 | MACAW LICK – RETURN TO CUSCO

  • Very early, we will depart by boat to the parrot clay lick, a natural clay wall where macaws, parrots, and parakeets congregate every morning in search of essential minerals for their diet.
  • Return to the lodge for breakfast.
  • Hike to Lake Machuwasi, where we board rustic rafts to explore this lagoon surrounded by vegetation.
  • Observe species such as the hoatzin (prehistoric bird), kingfishers, monkeys, and possibly caimans.
  • In the afternoon, explore trails deep in the primary forest, with guided botanical and ethnobotanical interpretation.
  • Dinner and second night at the Amazon Lodge.
