ITINERARY

Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Tambopata National Reserve – Hike to Sandoval Lake

  • Pickup at the airport or bus terminal in Puerto Maldonado. Our guide will greet you and transfer you to the port on the Madre de Dios River.
  • Boat ride to the Tambopata National Reserve (approximately 30 minutes). During the tour, you will observe lush Amazonian vegetation and some bird species in flight.
  • Enter the reserve and hike 3 km (approximately 1 hour 30 minutes) along a trail surrounded by giant trees, butterflies, monkeys, and birds, until you reach Sandoval Lake.
  • Lunch at the lodge, located near the lake.
  • In the afternoon, canoe ride on Sandoval Lake, home to giant otters, black caimans, hoatzins, kingfishers, and more.
  • At dusk, take a nighttime boat trip to observe caimans and listen to the intense sounds of the jungle under the moonlight.
  • Dinner at the lodge and rest.

Day 2: Lake Sandoval – Wildlife Watching – Return to Puerto Maldonado

  • Early morning boat trip on Lake Sandoval, an ideal time to observe birds in flight and mammals active at dawn.
  • Possibility of spotting giant otters, howler monkeys, scarlet macaws, toucans, and herons.
  • Breakfast at the lodge.
  • Free time to rest or take a refreshing swim in safe areas of the lake.
  • Return hike through the tropical forest to the checkpoint and return cruise to the port.
